Why Portraits Matter

I’m deep into my fall portrait session planning, and this email I just received made me stop everything and reflect on the work that I’ve been able to do with my clients over the years. The following words were sent from an absolutely lovely woman, whose family I have been photographing since her tall teenagers were tiny boys. It is letters like hers that make me remember why I’ve been doing this work for all these years. I’m so grateful to be able to make a difference in people’s lives, and all these families have also been shaping my own life along the way.

There are so many times I am reminded how great your photos are at capturing our family, and having the continuity over the years is really poignant.  I was reminded of it once again as I worked on the video for my dad, who unfortunately passed away this July.  I made a video, a slideshow to include pictures from his childhood, and the centerpoint for me were the portraits you have made of us all, when my parents were here in 2017.

THANK YOU - so grateful for your talent, skill, and warmth.

The following photo is from a session we did back in 2016. I just love this family, whose home is forever full of music, laughter, at least a couple pets, and plenty of love.
